China Eastern to increase Shanghai – Haneda and Okayama service in spring 2024

China Eastern upgauged its existing Haneda route from the A350-900 to the 777-300ER from the beginning of this month.

In the coming weeks, China Eastern Airlines will increase the frequency of its Shanghai Pudong – Tokyo Haneda route from the current daily to double daily and of its Shanghai Pudong – Okayama route from three to five weekly.

On the Shanghai Pudong – Tokyo Haneda route, China Eastern will add an extra rotation leaving Shanghai in the afternoon and returning later on the same day on top of the existing rotation which has the aircraft overnighting in Tokyo. With that, the schedule starting from April 28, 2024, will be as follows:

  • MU539* / Shanghai Pudong – Tokyo Haneda / 2:40PM – 6:30PM
  • MU575 / Shanghai Pudong – Tokyo Haneda / 5:15PM – 9:20PM
  • MU576 / Tokyo Haneda – Shanghai Pudong / 8:40AM – 10:55AM
  • MU540* / Tokyo Haneda – Shanghai Pudong / 8:00PM – 10:40PM

The existing rotation, MU575/MU576, is operated using China Eastern’s Boeing 777-300ERs with 316 seats including 52 in business and 258 in economy class. The new rotation will be operated using A320-200s with 158 seats including 8 in business sand 150 in economy class.

Combined with a daily rotation operated by its wholly-owned subsidiary Shanghai Airlines, the China Eastern Airlines group will offer three daily flights between Tokyo Haneda and Shanghai Pudong. Additionally, both China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines operate one rotation each between Tokyo Haneda and Shanghai Hongqiao, and China Eastern operates four daily rotations between Shanghai Pudong and Tokyo Narita.

The frequency of the Shanghai Pudong – Okayama route will increase from May 9, 2024. The schedule will be as follows:

  • MU527 / Shanghai Pudong – Okayama / 9:35AM – 1:00PM / Tue, Thu*, Fri, Sat*, Sun
  • MU528 / Okayama – Shanghai Pudong / 2:00PM – 3:35PM / Tue, Thu*, Fri, Sat*, Sun

* New frequencies.

China Eastern will continue to use its Airbus A319s with 122 seats including 8 in business and 114 in economy class on the route. No other airline offers non-stop service between the two cities.
