In 2013, China Airlines became the first airline to operate a non-stop Nagoya – Kota Kinabalu charter.

In August 2024, China Airlines will operate one roundtrip between Nagoya Chubu Airport and Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia on behalf of Japan’s tour operator H.I.S. The flight numbers and exact departure and arrival times have not been announced yet.

The flight from Nagoya to Kota Kinabalu will operate on August 11, 2024, and is expected to depart between 10PM and 11PM, arriving in Malaysia between 2:15AM and 3:15AM the next day. The return flight to Nagoya will operate on August 15, 2024, and is expected to depart between 2:15AM and 3:15AM, arriving in Nagoya between 8:20AM and 9:20AM.

While not confirmed yet, the flight is likely to be operated by an Airbus A330-300 equipped with 277 economy class seats and either 30 or 36 business class seats depending on the configuration of the used aircraft.

H.I.S. has been operating tours involving non-stop charter flights between Nagoya and Kota Kinabalu since 2013. The first such flight was operated by China Airlines using its A330-300. Since then, Malindo Air also operated the route.

While in the past Malaysia Airlines operated scheduled Kuala Lumpur – Nagoya flights, currently, there are no scheduled flights between Nagoya and Malaysia.
