Cathay Pacific ferries 777 damaged in Sapporo ground collision back to Hong Kong

Korean Air A330-Cathay Pacific 777 Ground Collision at Sapporo New Chitose
The Cathay Pacific 777 was damaged in a ground collision at Sapporo New Chitose during a blizzard.

Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300 registered B-HNW that was parked and undergoing repairs at Sapporo New Chitose Airport following a ground collision in January 2024 was ferried to Hong Kong on May 22, 2024. The aircraft took off from Sapporo New Chitose at 3:29PM as flight CX3871 and landed in Hong Kong at 7:25PM local time, after approximately five hours of flight.

The ferry flight cruised at 38,000 feet meaning the airline was able to repair the damaged fuselage to the point where it was able to fully pressurize the aircraft. That said, in Hong Kong, the aircraft was parked at a remote stand in the middle of the airport and is likely to undergo further inspections and maintenance work before its next revenue flight.

The ground collision took place on January 16, 2024, when a Korean Air A330’s wing clipped the rear part of the Cathay Pacific 777’s fuselage while being pushed back in a blizzard. No injuries resulted from the incident.
