Taiwan News reported that a baby boy was born on EVA Air’s flight from Tokyo Haneda to Taipei Songshan on February 15, 2024. After landing, the baby and his mother were transported to a hospital. They are reported to be safe.

The mother was assisted by her husband, four doctors who were onboard, and the cabin crew when she went into labor suddenly. The crew arranged for the flight to be given priority upon arrival at Taipei Songshan Airport and to be met by an ambulance.

The flight, BR189 operated by a Boeing 787-10 registered B-17811, took off from Haneda Airport at 1:56PM and landed at Songshan Airport just over three hours, at 3:07PM. It is not clear at what point during the flight the baby was born.

EVA Air’s policy prohibits women pregnant beyond 36 weeks (32 weeks in the case of twins) from flying. Expectant mothers within that limitation but in their last 12 weeks of pregnancy are required to complete a medical information sheet up to 10 days before departure and confirm their booking by submitting it up to 48 hours before departure.
