On May 10, 2024, Boeing announced that Eric John will become Boeing Japan’s next president. John will start his new role at the end of June 2024.

Since May 2014, John has been serving as the president of Boeing Korea. Before that, he worked for the U.S. Department of State for over 30 years in several roles, including the U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand and the U.S. Ambassador for Security Negotiations.

John will replace Will Shaffer who has been serving as the president of Boeing Japan since August 2019. Shaffer will join Boeing Global Services as its vice president of growth strategy once Eric John assumes his new role at Boeing Japan.

Both JAL and ANA are major customers of Boeing and the airframer also has key manufacturing partners in Japan. As such, the country is one of Boeing’s most important markets.
