ANA started playing new Pokemon-themed safety and disembarkation videos on Pikachu Jet NH and Eevee Jet NH, its two Pokemon-liveried aircraft, from today, August 15, 2024, the airline announced. The videos are expected to be used until the end of August 2028.
While multiple other airlines including Japan’s Air Do, Skymark Airlines, and Solaseed Air operate Pokemon-themed aircraft, ANA is the first airline to add the theme to its onboard videos. Both the safety and disembarkation videos overlay 3D Pokemon on actual footage.
According to ANA’s statement, “The in-flight safety video has been prepared to provide important safety information in a simple and engaging format for passengers worldwide.” “In the ANA Disembarkation Video featuring Pokemon, Pikachu gets lost on its journey and is reunited with its trainer through the cooperation of ANA airport staff, allowing viewers to experience the team spirit of ANA,” continues the statement.
The two ANA Pokemon Jets exclusively operate international flights and the schedule is not announced ahead of time. Today’s ANA flight 186, which is currently making its way to Honolulu is the first flight to use the new videos.
With ANA’s explicitly highlighting domestic flights by saying “Subtitles for domestic flights will be in Japanese and English, while subtitles for international flights will be in Japanese and the language of the country of service,” the airline might be hinting at potential future domestic Pokemon Jets, which would also use the themed videos.
