On June 28, 2024, American Airlines launched flights from New York JFK to Tokyo Haneda, with flights in the other direction following the next day. The route, which the airline previously operated until December 2013, will be operated daily as follows:
- AA167 / New York JFK – Tokyo Haneda / 11:25AM – 2:30PM+1
- AA168 / Tokyo Haneda – New York JFK / 4:30PM – 4:35PM
The route is operated by Boeing 777-200ER aircraft equipped with 273 seats including 37 in business, 24 in premium economy, and 212 in economy class.
American Airlines’ joint venture partner on the route, JAL operates two daily flights using its new flagship A350-1000. ANA operates two daily flights between Haneda and JFK too. While United Airlines offers daily flights from both Haneda and Narita to Newark, there are no flights between Narita and New York JFK.
In addition to the new New York route, which the airline is serving thanks to it being able to secure slots returned to the DOT by Delta Air Lines, American Airlines also serves Tokyo Haneda daily from Los Angeles and Dallas. It offers daily flights from the latter to Tokyo Narita as well.
