Last week, Aircalin announced plans to temporarily suspend Noumea – Tokyo Narita flights between September 1, 2024, and the end of the 2024 summer schedule. Now, flights departing on October 27, 2024, and onward that were open for booking can no longer be booked, hinting at a longer-term or permanent suspension of the route.
Aircalin first halted flights to Tokyo and other destinations in mid-May 2024 when New Caledonia started experiencing unrest due to a proposed electoral reform. The airline resumed flights to Tokyo Narita with a greatly reduced schedule on June 7, 2024, and plans to operate one flight a week until the end of August 2024. It is the only airline connecting the two cities.
While it looks like the airline will not offer direct flights to Tokyo beyond September 1, 2024, Aircalin said “Japan remains an available destination via Singapore or Sydney” when announcing the initial 2024 summer schedule suspension.
