The number of powered fixed-wing aircraft registered in Japan peaked at 1,383 in 2019 and has since dropped to 1,318 in 2023. Rotorcraft carrying a JA-registration peaked all the way back in 1991 at 1,201 airframes and stood at just 858 airframes in 2023. Gliders have been hovering in the 600 to 700 range since 1999 and there was one airship as of the end of 2023.
